  REVIEW:

Bridge to Terabithia – to much terror, not enough Bithia!

All the fans of the book have long been waiting for the release of this movie.  For those fans, the movie stays pretty true to the story in the book, but to bring the movie to life, two very talented kids (Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb) were found to play the lead roles.  Leslie (AnnaSohia Robb) is the new kid in town and makes an impression at school when she beats Jesse (Josh Hutcherson) in a sprinting race.  Besides running, they have other things in common; both facing bullies and dealing with troubles at home.  They become fast friends and find a place in the woods where they can escape and play.  It’s there where they let their imaginations run wild and soon the things they imagine become real.  Unfortunately though, even their imaginations can’t make hard realities disappear.

Bridge to Terabithia offers adorable young actors portraying children with whom most can relate.  The story too is relatable – who hasn’t wanted to escape to an imaginary kingdom in the woods?  But while the filmmakers have done an impressive, creative job of showing what’s actually in a character’s imagination on screen, the movie has a heavy dose of very real tragedy.  And, the tragedy is rather unsettling for those expecting a happy children’s tale.  Those who have read the book will probably love the movie, but the unfamiliar might find it too troubling to be truly enjoyable.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate Bridge to Terabithia YELLOW.  Caution – this one will appeal to teens more than adults.
